OUR STORY

GROWN WITH LOVE

Smash a Strawb is a family business founded by Manjimup farmer and marketer Paul Da Silva.

Paul’s journey into the strawberry industry began as a fruit wholesaler at the WA markets. Working closely with growers gave him a firsthand understanding of the industry, from the realities of farming and harvesting through to the commercial demands of getting fresh produce to market. It was this experience that led him to begin growing strawberries himself.

Room to Grow

In 2013, Paul took the next step, moving to Manjimup to establish the farm on a larger scale. With its cool climate and ideal growing conditions, the region is renowned for producing premium-quality strawberries.

Since then, the business has continued to evolve, investing in modern growing and farm practices with a strong focus on quality, efficiency and the people behind the harvest. The farm has transitioned to single-row tabletops and substrate growing systems, making harvesting more ergonomic for workers, improving access to the fruit and helping reduce physical damage and crop wastage. New refrigerated transport systems have also improved the way fruit is handled from farm to market, helping maintain quality and freshness.

As Fresh As

Paul established Grower Connect in 2018 after recognising that many growers wanted to focus on what they do best — farming. Grower Connect supports growers with the commercial and logistical side of getting their produce to market quickly and efficiently, connecting Western Australian growers with major retailers.

Da Whole Family

At Smash a Strawb, Paul grows eight carefully selected strawberry varieties, chosen for their flavour, yield and ability to extend the growing season. The focus is simple: grow great fruit, look after the people who grow and harvest it, and get it to customers in the best possible condition.

Today, two generations of the family work in the business, with three generations of the Da Silva family calling the farm home.
